Mountain Sun is a Design/Build firm based in Asheville, NC. We create innovative designs that are rooted in the study of the site, the clients’ unique needs, and a respect for the Earth in terms of material use and future energy and water consumption of the building. With experience in permaculture site design and passive solar design, we strive to create interior spaces that harmonize with the seasonal changes of the sun’s path across the sky and connect occupants to the natural world beyond the walls of the house.
All the homes we build are Energy Star and Green Built NC certified (usually Platinum level) and many are Net Zero Energy and/or EPA Indoor AirPLUS certified. Our most recently certified home achieved a HERS Score of -22! The average HERS score of every house we’ve ever built is 18.
As a small firm, we only build a few projects a year in the Asheville area, but we are available to provide consultations and design services for clients wanting to build outside of the immediate Asheville area. We will also occasionally build a project that we didn’t design and/or collaborate with other designers if schedules align.
