Our Design/Build Process
We are a small company and are very much hands on with every project at every phase. Our designs are based on a careful study of the site, the client's needs, wants, budget and any style preferences they may have. Because the project is informed by these inputs, we approach every new project with an open mind and without a preconceived notion about the final product. The house becomes a collaboration between us as designer/builder and the homeowner as the future occupant.
We have experience in all phases of development, so we can meet clients wherever they are in the process of building their new home whether they have already purchased land and are ready start the design/build process or need help in finding the right spot on which to build their new home. No two project flows are exactly the same, but here is a general outline of how we work with clients with estimates for length of time spent in each phase (can be slowed down for clients who prefer a slower process):
Phase 1 (varies depending on client's schedule):

Phase 1 (varies depending on client's schedule):
- Initial phone call or in person meeting to determine if potential client's project goals are a good match for our company and for the potential client to gather more information about us.
- Follow up meeting if needed.
- Consulting (for land search) or Design/Build contract signed.
- If we are helping in the land search, land search continues until a home site is found and then Design/Build contract is signed.
- In depth questionnaire completed by client to get them started analyzing what they want and need in their new home.
- Site analysis performed.
- Conceptual designs created and given to clients for feedback.
- Design revisions made until we reach a final plan.
- Construction documents created.
- Plans sent to engineer for structural design as needed.
- Plans sent out for bids and final estimate completed.
- If financing construction, client applies for construction loan.
- Apply for permits.
- Construction of new home begins.
- Project is managed by Jeb on site and Emily in the office (and occasionally on site). We are the primary points of contact for our clients.
- CO from the City of Asheville or Buncombe County is issued.
- Power turned on and mechanical systems tested.
- Energy Star, GreenBuilt NC and other certifications completed.
- Move in!
